1)
What exactly do you sell online?
We sell canvas transfers aka art on canvas, photos on canvas and framed art on canvas. See
details below.
2)
What exactly is a canvas transfer?
When you find a print you want, or you already have a print, (poster,
lithograph, etc.) you normally frame it under glass. A Canvas Transfer
is an alternative that transfers the image to canvas so it looks like an
original painting. The process begins with coating the print with a layer of
clear acrylic. Then, it is soaked in a solution
which dissolves the paper away, leaving just the image. This image
layer is hand applied to artist grade canvas and stretched on stretcher
bars. Stretchers bars are the pieces of wood that hold the canvas
tight and square. The art is now ready to frame, or instead of framing we
can finish the edges with a gallery wrap or museum wrap.
3) What is a Gallery or Museum Wrap?
With the gallery wrap the image continues from the front
of the piece and wraps around on the sides of the piece. Keep in mind you
will enjoy some of the image from the side view, but not looking at it
straight on.
The good news is you don't need to frame the piece. With the Museum Wrap the
image is all on the front of the piece and the sides are white. In either case,
this is a very popular look. The depth of your piece is will be 7/8 of an inch on "canvas
transfers" or our "art on Canvas" and 1.5 inches thick on all "photos on canvas".
4) What are Photos On
Canvas? They are photos printed directly onto canvas instead of
paper (also known as a Giclees on canvas). Benefits are many - canvas gives
a softer look, there's no glass, so no glare issues, there's no frame, so
large pictures give your room a "wow" factor, without appearing too large
for the room - in fact, many photos look more like a picture window on your
wall than a picture! These very high quality photos are available form as
small as 36" wide up to a grand 90" wide without losing the clarity of the
image.
5) What about framing options?
Under "Framed Art" in our online store we
offer these pieces exactly the way you see them frames. At our physical
store in N. Conway, NH we happily help you design
your piece with all the frame options.
6)
What is the difference between a print, poster, giclee, lithograph,
serigraph, etc.? This is the
most misunderstood issue in the art industry. If it's not the one and
only original, then its a reproduction. That can be a print on paper,
or canvas, or a hand painted "knock-off", or some combination of the above.
A print (on paper or canvas) is called by the name that describes how the
ink got on the paper or canvas. Most common are lithographs,
serigraphs and giclees. The method doesn't matter at all if we're
transferring it to canvas anyway, but can matter a great deal when
discussing issues of UV protection, etc. Our photos on canvas for instance,
are printed with 100 year pigment inks and are varnished for UV protection.
Don't worry, we'll help you sort out the difference when and where it
matters.
7)
What do you sell in your physical store?
In our retail stores, we sell many forms of art - framed prints, oil
painting, etc. We're not crazy about shipping glass, and you're not crazy
about the shipping cost. Also selecting matt colors, etc is vastly easier in
person. Perfect for online shopping though, is the canvas transfers,
photos on canvas and the framed pieces - thus the focus of our web site.
8) How long will my
Order take? Photos on Canvas -
usually ships in 3-4 days, but allow up to ten business days to arrive at
your door. Art on canvas or Framed Art on Canvas takes 4-6 weeks. This is
due to the time it takes to get the prints from the original publisher, and
the detailed process involved. Parts of this timing is up to
individual publishers and is out of our control.
Note: Don't be
fooled by hand painted reproductions (often promoted as original oils) on the internet
or at hotel art sales. Those hand painted oils are great for decorative pieces,
but you should really see the one you're going to get in person - they are
hand painted and vary widely in quality and accuracy. We offer this
product in our store, but not online for the reasons just stated.
